01. What are dyes ?
Generally, dyes are the colored substances which have interaction to the substrate to which these are being applied. As an aqueous solution form, these dyes can be applied. Generally, these dyes require mordant to improve the fastness on the fibers.
Whereas, pigments, simply don't have any inherent likeness for the substrates. Pigments are also not soluble in nature.
02. What are pigments ?
In biology, pigments are those substances which can give color to the tissues or cells of animals or plants. The most commonly available natural groups of pigments in the plant and animals groups, are called Carotenoid.
03. What is the difference between Dyes and Pigments ?
Dyes are soluble in water. These dyes are used for colored clothes, basket reed and other porous materials. Pigments are the coloring substances and these are generally found in powder from that is insoluble in water. These don't migrate or bleed. For the insoluble nature, pigments are mixed with oil, water, etc. to make paint. Due to having different properties in dyes and pigments, these two are used in different effects. Dyes and pigments have different properties and are used to create different effects.
